Young French Winger, gatecrashes Colney hoping for a trial.

A 24 year old Winger, Achille Degan, who plays for Saint-Lô in the fifth tier of the French league is so desperate to play for Arsenal, he turned up and camped outside London Colney yesterday in the hopes of securing a trial.

He made his own way from Normandy to Hertfordshire with only one thing on his mind, to convince Arsène Wenger of handing him a trial.

Degan turned up at Colney yesterday with full kit bag ready at the pindrop in hopes of a trial but as of this moment, Wenger has yet to grant it. However the trial and subsequent signing of young, former Hednesford Town Left-Back Cohen Bramhall, has seemingly given the Frenchman hope and he says he will keep coming back until Arsenal say yes.

Degan said yesterday “I am courageous and I am determined. I want to show by my courage that I can succeed and to show  [the world] that only willpower, perseverance, fight, vision and hard work, can take us wherever we want to go.”

He added of Arsène Wenger “The coach does not know me yet but I know him and I admire him. I respect the work he has been doing for all these years and I don’t think it is over, he still has much to give to Arsenal. Much more.”

Let’s keep an eye on this one and see if Achille Degan does get the trial he so very much wants.

Arsenal on the hunt for Ghezzal.

Things are said to be hotting up in terms of Arsenal’s pursuit of Olympique Lyon winger, Rachid Ghezzal after the French side signed Memphis Depay from Manchester United this week.

Everton reportedly had a £12m bid for Ghezzal accepted back in the summer, but the player rejected the club and it’s now said he’d be happy with a move to Arsenal, although several other clubs are interested in him.

Arsenal are believed to have met with Ghezzal’s representatives recently but despite Lyon preferring, if they have to let the player go, to get some kind of fee for him and not allowing him to leave the Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium for free, the recent discussions are said to be for summer and a Bosman transfer.

Arsenal do have several players who play in the same area of the pitch as Ghezzal, but with the need for depth and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future not secure, this is one to keep an eye on.

Arsenal Kean on Juve’s Moise??

Arsenal have become frontrunners for 16yo Juventus youngster, Moise Kean, according to reports in Italy.

It’s said that the Italian giants value Kean at £10m and Manchester City are also up there with Arsenal in bringing the young Centre-Forward to England.

Kean has already made history when he came on for Juventus in their 3-0 win over Pescara in November, which made him the first player born in the 2000’s to play in Europe’s top 5 leagues. He also became the first player born this century to feature in the Champion’s League when he came on against Sevilla in the same month.

Although reports state Arsenal are very much at the front of the queue for Kean, one thing that could make things difficult is that his agent is none other than Mino Raiola.

There is a myth that Arsenal don’t do business anymore with three agents. Darren Dein (infamous son of former Arsenal & FA Vice-Chairman, David Dein), Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola. However the latter already has a client at Arsenal in youngster Donyell Malen whom he actually said could “become a revelation” under Arsène Wenger.

Moise Kean has been at Juventus for six years now and appeared for Italy at both Under-15 and Under-17 level, this season he’s had seven goals and three assists in nine youth appearances.

Goalkeepers: One in and one out, at Arsenal?

His name first cropped up in relation to Arsenal around the end of November when it emerged that scouts from the club had watched Guillaume Hubert playing for Standard Liege a total of six times and Arsène Wenger is very keen to strike up a deal for the Belgian shot-stopper.

And now the goalkeeper has expressed his joy at the possibility of signing for the Gunners. The 22 year old said “It is a pleasure to learn that Arsenal are interested in me. I did not know about it before. A lot of top-class keepers play in England, and they are attracted to go there.”

He added “I am a big fan of the Premier League, and any player would love to appear in it one day. But I will focus on playing for Standard. They are the club where I have wanted to establish myself.” The Standard Liege and Belgium keeper has been likened to Thibaut Courtois and valued at £5m.

From one keeper to another and it seems that on loan Arsenal goalie Wojciech Szczęsny, is wanted on a permanent basis by AS Roma who are attempting to fix a plan together for the transfer with Arsenal.

Arsenal have asked Roma for £14m for the Polish keeper and it’s thought they will pay in order to keep Szczęsny in Rome.

Since Arsenal signed Petr Čech, Wojciech lost his place in the Arsenal side, he joined AS Roma on loan back in August 2015 and has spent two years on loan with the Italians so far, playing a total of 61 times when fully fit.

It is thought Roma have been in contact as recently as this week with Arsenal and a deal could be completed before next weekend.

Three clubs interested in taking Akpom on loan.

Brentford, Fulham and Cardiff City have all expressed interest to Arsenal, regarding taking 21yo forward Chuba Akpom on loan for the remainder of the season.

Chuba has already made a few loan appearances for Brentford back in 2014 and Arsenal are said to be open to allowing him to go on loan to regain fitness and get some minutes under his belt this season.

Initially Akpom was due to be part of Arsène Wenger’s plans in Arsenal’s campaign for the 16/17 season, but that was put on hold after the player suffered an excruciating back injury that’s kept him out since September and now a loan to the Championship seems likely.

It is thought should Brentford be successful in taking Akpom, it could pave the way for West Ham to sign Scott Hogan.

CONFIRMED: Arsenal sign one talented youngster and have their sights set on another.

So as Arsenal’s official website confirmed today, The Gunners have secured the signing of Non-League left back, Cohen Bramall. This signing had been known for a bit now, but finally the club were able to confirm it.

img_20170110_145423

Cohen Bramall’s rise from Hednesford Town to Arsenal isn’t a long one really but amazing considering the lack of time it took to materialise. He’d only been at Hednesford Town since July when Arsenal spotted him in the middle of a two week trial at Sheffield Wednesday before offering him their own two day trial just before Christmas, where afterwards Arsène Wenger simply shook Bramall’s hand and said “I like the way you play.” And the rest is yet to be written.

Some believed Bramall would slot straight into the first team, mainly because Wenger had him training with the main squad as opposed to the Under-23’s, as well as the talent and speed he’s already proven he’s capable of (he once clocked in at 10.90 in the 100m sprint, the London 2012 qualifying time was 10.18) but the Arsenal manager has since confirmed he wasn’t quite ready for the Premier League yet and would be providing much needed competition to Marc and Tolaji Bola (no relation) at LB, as well as Tyrell Robinson when he moves up from the Under-18’s.

img_20170110_145443

There have been a few comparisons drawn up about Bramall already, one by Wenger himself, saying he’s like “a young Ashley Cole.” Let’s hope the club allow the youngster to develop and grow into what a magnificent talent those who know him already say he’ll be.

With all that said and done and Cohen Bramall part of Arsenal’s young setup, the term “wonder kid” or “whizkid” comes too loosely for some in my opinion but that’s exactly what Bramall is deemed to be as is the other youngster Arsenal are keeping tabs on. His name is Toby Sibbick and he’s currently a second year scholar with AFC Wimbledon.

sport-preview-toby-sibbick-to-arsenal

He signed a new deal with Wimbledon last August and although is yet to feature in a senior game for the side, he is highly regarded by them. He can play primarily at Centre-Back but also at Right-Back and it’s pretty clear Wenger is currently on the lookout for English talent from the lower leagues.

He recently poached Rob Holding away from Bolton and back then confirmed he would continue to target players like him. “I’ve said [to our scouts] to look at the lower leagues because the good players are there now. Don’t forget we have many foreign players [in the Premier League] but good English players have to go down to develop.”

The art of the Clickbait headline and shoddy journalism.

I woke up this morning to a tweet directing me to an article written by Stan Collymore regarding Mesut Özil, basically giving his opinion on the players recent comments about how he’ll happily sign an extension with Arsenal, but only as long as Arsène Wenger stays. There was only one problem with this, the quotes Collymore referred to didn’t exist.

Stan had done what I’ve witnessed plenty of football fans (Arsenal and otherwise) do this last week when German outlet Kicker first published their interview with Özil. They read the headlines and sunk into the hype surrounding them without reading the actual interview itself. He had either naively fallen victim to the art of the Clickbait headline or was just too lazy to check otherwise.

Let’s just backtrack a little to the interview. I’ve gone over it both in German and it’s translation (thanks to all who took the time to translate) and I’m still a little fuzzy on the part where the German playmaker says he’ll extend at Arsenal if Wenger does but otherwise no, I mean I literally can’t find it however hard I look.

2017-01-10-10-40-34-1194911810

I found the part in the interview where Özil says he wants to extend and the club & fans know that. I found the part where he discusses his admiration, respect, loyalty and faith in Wenger just as he has shown in his players. I found the part where he states Wenger was a massive factor in him joining and of course he’d like to know if he’s sticking around and if not, who was replacing him (even Tony Adams, Mr. Arsenal who signed every contract without reading it wanted to know who was replacing Graham and then Rioch. Naturally).

So what has happened between Kicker publishing the interview and the world of “Football Twitter” getting hold of it? It appears that shoddy British journalism has played a massive part, taking two separate answers Özil gave and meshing them together to make one fabricated quote, on top of that you’ve got lazy Twitter users who are reading these Clickbait headlines and just rolling with it, either because they can’t be bothered to read the actual article or because they’ve got an agenda.

images-2

This is another issue with journalists trying to gain clicks and views. They don’t care how it affects a person so long as they get the attention. I’ve seen people who were in awe of Mesut for years, now due to the fact they dislike or have an agenda against Wenger and because Özil supports the Manager he plays for (and they believe the made up stories) wanting him to leave, slagging him off and giving him dogs abuse.

This morning Stan Collymore, whether intentionally or not, wrote an article based on fabricated quotes surmised by Clickbait headlines and fuelled an already intense flame. I just hope those intelligent football fans out there are able to sift the rubbish from the truth in this day and age of decaying Media.

From Spain to Scotland: Toral to get another bite of the Cherry.

Glasgow Rangers want to announce Jon Toral as their newest loan acquisition as soon as today (Tuesday), after Arsène Wenger green-lit the move last week. The youngster suffered an agonising first half of the season at Granada, featuring in only six games for the Spaniards.

Toral flew to Scotland from Spain, via London, over the weekend and spent time in Glasgow and at Murray Park with Manager Mark Warburton, who he also played under at Brentford.

When asked whether the move to Scotland from Spain would help Toral in the second half of the season, Wenger gave a resounding yes “…because he has played [at Granada] but at the moment he doesn’t play and personally I think it would be a good transition for him.”

Last season, Toral made player of the season, whilst playing for Birmingham City in the Championship.
